Under general supervision, performs a variety of tasks related to the maintenance, repair modification, construction and operation of County roads; operates light trucks and applicable road equipment. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICSThis is the entry-level class in the Road Maintenance series responsible for performing routine and structured activities related to the maintenance of County roads. Incumbents report to a Road Supervisor or higher level personnel. This class is distinguished from the higher level class of Road Maintenance Worker in that the latter is the journey level class in the series performing the full scope of technical road maintenance duties.Essential FunctionsOperates light trucks in the transport of equipment and materials; operates other equipment related to road construction including rollers, chain saws and wood chippers.Assists in resurfacing, oiling, and patching roads; lifts and moves heavy objects; loads and transports stone, gravel, dirt, asphalt, and other materials; and dumps or unloads trucks.Sweeps, clears and cleans roadsides, gutters, curbs, culverts, and other drainage structures.Cleans and maintains basic tools on the job; performs pick and shovel work involved with digging, widening and back filling trenches and other excavations.Removes debris and cleans away undergrowth.Performs related duties as assigned.
