My responsibilities include cleaning laboratory glassware with acid and DI water, filtering chlorophyll, turbidity and water toxicity. I am certified to perform turbidity and water toxicity by DHEC standards. I receive samples every other week from eight different sites around the area to keep a running log of the environment. I am also involved in data input for turbidity standards and control charting. During the past summer I worked alongside the laboratory technicians in the field at three piers along the coast studying hypoxia which is prominent during the summer months. I worked to clean and maintain ocean sondes collecting data for turbidity, chlorophyll, dissolved oxygen, depth and conductivity. I learned a overview of the technology and got more insight to the long bay hypoxia. Show less
