I taught a variety of course for the UNCW ESL Program. I was also active in curriculum design. Most notably, I worked with a colleague to develop project-based grammar courses, in which students learn grammar by using it in a variety of real-world applications, such as analyzing popular music, interviewing locals about social issues, and creating travel websites for their home communities. I also co-developed an online integrated English course for students living abroad, a conversational skills course, and a language games and current events course. In addition to teaching and curriculum design, I also helped coordinate departmental events and field trips, mentored students on individual research projects, and compiled documents for CEA accreditation. • K-2 ESOL Teacher
      • Aug 2017 - Jun 2018

I taught K-2 ESOL at Rochester International Academy, a K-12 public school for refugee students in Rochester, NY. I designed my classes using a content-based approach in which we spent one to three weeks on each content based unit. The content included grade appropriate science (animal habitats, plant growth, severe weather, etc.), social studies (communities, transportation over time, cooking around the world, etc.), stories (Chicken Little, Fables, etc.), and current events (the Winter Olympics, Chinese New Year, etc.). Within each unit, I defined content goals, language goals (including phonics and reading), and a project goal. The students worked extensively in groups to complete a variety of multimodal unit projects, such as a habitat brochure (which they presented "poster style" to classmates), a desert book and diorama, a severe weather safety poster (which they presented to other classes and displayed in the halls), a recorded weather forecast, a class cooking demonstration day, a class play, and a puppet show.
