I have been a volunteer teacher of biology here since 2015, helping hundreds of students to enter college. This experience helped me greatly to develop empathy, organization and the ability to explain complex subjects and ideas.Equalizar is a volunteer project entirely run by students and alumni of the Federal University of Minas Gerais. It is a preparatory course for university admission exams (vestibular/ENEM) for low income students.

With a scholarship from CAPES in the Jovens Talentos para a Ciência (Young Talents for Science) program, I carried out research in plant physiology, with an emphasis on plant water deficit tolerance. The research was intended to understand the molecular mechanisms that allow plants to survive in arid conditions. The result allows applications in the creation of drought resistant varieties, which can contribute to the improvement of food security and agricultural production. The result was presented at the XV Latin American Congress of Plant Physiology. During this period, I had the opportunity to deal in practice with the scientific method, with all its necessary academic rigor, statistical analysis and inference techniques and academic writing.
