  Over the course of my five month work placement I was introduced to many standard procedures such as risk assessment, SOPs and calibration of equipment. A large focus of my placement was then attributed to the consultancy work testing corrosion resistance and adhesion of coatings and so as trying to improve their quality. My initial training was comprised of learning the theory of several instruments from SOPs and applying it in the consultancy jobs. Having learnt the theory, the next step was so enjoyable, because I was able to see the issues in a practical point of view. I could follow all the process since the moment that the sample arrives in CREST until sending the final report to the client. My placement allowed me to reinforce my current knowledge and gave me the opportunity to put lot of it into practice using instruments such as DSC, TGA, FT-IR, Q-UV, Salt Spray Cabinet, Metallurgical microscope, Grinder and Polisher and so on.
