I was part of a project studying and evaluating the impact of several energy programs in two African countries -Burkina Faso and Rwanda- and one Asian country -Indonesia. The projects aimed at assessing the households and community impacts of energy related programs. My job was to participate in negotiations on issues with the Dutch government and stakeholders and to provide direct briefings to the Ministries of the Dutch Government and to provide them with the necessary information to enable the Ministry to make decisions about the future of the projects. I was in charge of preparing and drafting the household and communities’ questionnaires after having defined the scope, the objectives, the indicators, data requirements and the overall strategy of the study. I trained the data collectors and negotiated on project issues with the government representatives and main stakeholders in order to organize the baseline and the follow up surveys. Once the quality of the data has been checked, I conducted the cost-benefit analysis to implement the statistical analysis and the framework of the economic modelling projects and to test the robustness of assumptions (mainly using STATA and Excel). When the evaluation of the impacts has been addressed I wrote the reports, academic paper, briefing notes, executive recommendations and policy papers –depending on the type of the audience and the clients’ need- all required to support strategic decision making and policy and program development. Part of the job was to maintain current knowledge of related academic literature and familiarity with trends, programs, and policies, directly or indirectly related to the project outcome. I represented the University at related inter-governmental meeting to take strategic decisions on policy and programs, in conferences and in working groups’ consultations on matters related to the economic impacts of initiatives.

I worked in two different divisions of the organization. In both of them I provided expert advices and assistance on economic modelling and on the use and interpretation of data for various economic instruments, statistical methods, and analytical approaches. In the economic division, I worked in a project aiming at measuring the composition and importance of the income generating activities for the rural households in many developing and transition economies in order to understand the labour market trends, households' activities, migration and poverty trends and to design more effective and better targeted rural and agricultural government policies and legislation. I monitored and analysed data to estimate trends and regularities important for the division programs, raising issues and providing recommendations to the division. Analysis and maintenance of large dataset was a daily task of my job. In the energy and natural resource division I provided expert input in support of the development of the biogas component of the ‘Bioenergy Feasibility Study Rapid Appraisal Tool’. The aim of the tool was to run a cost-benefit analysis related to the use of bio-digester technology. I identified data needs and sources, managed and designed and maintened databases for critical information. I furthermore worked in several publications dealing with measuring the impacts of the increase in the prices of key food staples, as a consequence of biofuel developments, on different household groups and on different indicators related to the labor market, nutrition, household wages and I helped to identify the vulnerable segments of the population. These publications have been used by local governments of Cambodia, Perú and Tanzania to derive ad-hoc policies to redistribute the losses across the population.
