    • Aerodynamic optimization of an RC Jet model
      • Apr 2019 - Sep 2019

This team project was accomplished as part of the course of Aerodynamic Design. It consisted of the optimisation of the aerodynamic characteristics of an RC aircraft model (FIAM Jet) that was built by the Italian aircraft model association FIAM, based near Milan. The FIAM Jet reproduces the never built P-JET, which was designed by professor Luigi Pascale, also founder of TECNAM, an Italian aircraft manufacturer. The geometry of the model was built and analysed through two software (OpenVSP and XFLR5). The optimisation process consisted of searching new airfoils (through databases and optimization via Xoptfoil) and redesigning the wingtips. The work was presented to the president of FIAM during a meeting at Politecnico di Milano. He was really satisfied with the work done by the group and an article was published on the FIAM website (http://www.fiamaero.it/). The 5 students who worked on the FIAM Jet were also awarded with a prize money. Show less

    • University Alliance of the Silk Road (UASR) summer camp
      • Jul 2019 - Jul 2019

The UASR is a non-governmental and non-profit organization that aims at the international cooperation in higher education. It encourages partnerships and exchanges between institutions in order to foster talent education, scientific research and cultural dissemination, embracing the spirit of the Silk Road. 151 universities in 38 countries are part of this global educational platform. Politecnico di Milano is a strategic partner of the Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU, founder of UASR in 2015) and in September 2019 the Joint School od Design and Innovation Centre of the two universities was inaugurated in Xi'an. It is the first physical campus of the Politecnico di Milano located outside Italy and was built in the Xixian New Area, where the Chinese Government started an innovative urbanisation project over a 900 km2 area. It includes also the very recent Western China Science and Technology Innovation Harbour. The 16 students from Politecnico di Milano, who went to China for the July 2019 edition of the summer school, were meant to strengthen the relationship between the two universities in view of the inauguration in the next September. • Wind tunnel testing
      • Nov 2017 - Dec 2017

The activity was part of the course of Aerodynamics and aimed at providing students with the basic principles of experimentation. It consisted of: • calibration of the wind tunnel; • measurement of lift, drag and pitching moment on a NACA 0015 and NACA 23012 airfoils: • final report and comparison with the simulation results from Xfoil.
