I would say the most notable attribute of Luke is that he has a lot of technical knowledge. He's a learned and very adept Software Engineer/Architect and it is difficult to surprise him with something he didn't already know around computer science as a whole! He has an interest in the low level details which provides a great basis for this knowledge; I remember him rewriting a C program we had in assembly just as an exercise in his personal development time. He seems to have a particular interest in security, and his knowledge reflects this too. I believe it's valuable to have someone like this in a development team, especially as languages and technologies are becoming increasingly high level in their abstractions and thus leading to generations of developers who are not as clued up in the lower level aspects of computers as they might be. He's passionate about Perl and keeps up with the latest Perl advances. I would consider him a real expert in Perl and very competent in a handful of other languages.
