      • Sep 2015 - Jun 2016

Built research packets, engaged with policymakers, and prepared memoranda for the Deputy Chiefs of Staff and the Governor on topics such as mitigating climate change, parole and probation reform, and regulating economic disruptors such as Uber. For example, I spearheaded the research effort to increase the efficiency and streamline performance of Rhode Island’s agencies. I gathered information from government, non-profit, and academic sources on the best possible practices for the Governor to choose from. In addition, I conducted meetings with multiple high-level staffers in different agencies to gain feedback and further study the potential for such government modernization. After extensive research and discussions, I helped to draft a plan to create an across-the-board review of agency practices. Also, I outlined a series of options for voting rights reform, studying equivalent legislation and regulation within Rhode Island and other states, especially those with a progressive reputation in this regard. I then developed a series of options for the Governor with regard to voter ID laws, automatic voter registration, early voting, and mail-in votes. I took special care to understand and explain the needs for such proposals, as well as the potential for increasing voter turnout and ensuring the ability to vote for all Rhode Islanders.
