The exhibition and accompanying publication, A Model Workshop: Margaret Lowengrund and The Contemporaries focuses on Lowengrund as a visionary printmaker, critic, and organizer within the mid-20th century printmaking community. This project will recover her as a pioneering figure who opened the first hybrid printmaking workshop and commercial gallery in the US called The Contemporaries, laying the groundwork for other important woman-led printmaking studios in the decades to follow, including ULAE, Tamarind Institute, and Crown Point Press. The project is supported by the Getty Foundation. Co-organized with Christina Weyl. Show less
