My collaboration and friendship with Laura Kuri started more than 5 years ago. Throughout my years at the University of Texas at Austin, I have been mentored by several of my colleagues through organizations and worked with many academic researchers on various projects. Laura Kuri stands out among those I have known. I worked directly with Laura for 3 years as a part of the Science Undergraduate Research Group. Her dedication and professionalism always stood out and set the bar high for our team. As a part of a student organization and community specializing in the promotion of undergraduate involvement in scientific research, Laura cared so much for the undergraduates and researching faculty that she worked with. She always took the time to understand the researcher's work and consider how she could best help with the needs of the undergraduate community. Laura is extremely respected among the groups she supported. She helped keep our organization focused and positive, and was always there to help mentor her peers. During this time, her skill in excellently organizing multi-level projects and her ability to compartmentalize problems helped her lead the organization to new heights. Laura distinguishes herself from others by actively participating in the development of the organization or company she is a part of and always strives to maintain an excellent correspondence with her colleagues and friends. In addition, Laura has displayed the kind of independence, creativity and commitment normally seen only in the best researchers.
