Stephanie O'Connor

I had the pleasure of meeting Lou Pino in 2010, while he was completing his clinical research fellowship with one of Canada’s most prominent neurologists, Dr. Vladimir Hachinski. At the time, Lawson’s health research informatics platform was in its early phases of development, Lou assisted in framing the context to create a common understanding between the health care user groups and the technical team that I was working with. This was one of my first interactions with Lou and I found him open and honest, and willing to share his knowledge. Above this, I learned that Lou has a wealth of technical knowledge from smart technology design, to supportive methodologies for all phases of product development, including validation, and testing. Clinical researchers use a multidisciplinary approach to study new treatment approaches, but the multidisciplinary approach only works if you have individuals on the team who have a solid understanding of two or more of the disciplines. In my humble opinion, I would describe Lou as a translator between the field of emerging smart technologies and the integration of these technologies into the health care system.
