In my current position, I support the preclinical development of novel therapies to address unmet needs within neurodegenerative diseases. My tasks include reviewing literature, planning PK/PD and disease model experiments, and providing data management, analysis, and interpretation. I worked on fixed-term projects at Lundbeck across different departments, including on a research project investigating in vitro alternatives to a cytotoxicity assay and an in vivo skin irritation assay. The aim of this project was to improve animal welfare and potentially increase the predictive capabilities of the animal models and experiments. I also organised a vehicle database, to provide an overview of the toxicological data. This research project examines pharmacological and chemogenetic interventions in the rodent continuous performance test, to assess the impact of dopamine and noradrenaline on attention and impulsivity. We also examine the contribution of different neurotransmitter receptor families towards the therapeutic effects of ADHD medications. I have also had the pleasure of supervising several master students over the years, who contributed to the project. Main Supervisor: Associate Professor Jesper T. This research project explored the use of gene therapy as an emerging treatment strategy for pharmaco-resistant epilepsy, affecting 30-40% of epilepsy patients. Therapeutic transgene overexpression was mediated through adeno-associated viral vectors delivered to the rodent hippocampus through stereotaxic surgery. The seizure-suppressant effects were examined in a kainic acid seizure model, with side effects on memory assessed in the Morris water maze and Y maze for spontaneous alternation. Viral vector expression was examined through immunohistochemistry staining and the quantitative polymerase chain reaction assay. Supervisor: Associate Professor David P. D. This was a fixed-term internship in Hemophilia Factor Vlll treatment in Biopharm, Novo Nordisk. I supported the development and implementation of a new IT-based production planning system (Access Orchestrate), in order to optimise resources, prevent scheduling errors, and minimise waste. In this regard, I was very fortunate to collaborate with several different parties to collect different input for the functionality of the new system. I also developed educational material and held instructional sessions on the topic of the new planning system. Furthermore, I participated in the development of cLEAN systems to identify error types and solutions, which further supported the department's goal of minimising flaws within API production.
