Louise is working as a much valued intern in the SD&I team and I think has a wonderful service design career ahead of her. Not only is she talented in design but she is also professional and efficient, works well to deadlines and is a lovely cheerful person to be around. I couldn't recommend her highly enough and hope I will work with her again in the future!

During my time at Snook I continued to flex my skills in service design and user research, as well as in project management and coaching. I enjoyed being a key part of projects across government, healthcare, the third sector and the circular economy. Visiting Lecturer

Sep 2019 - Nov 2019
In its fifth successful year, lead by Ian Grout, I acted as a visiting lecturer for the 3rd year Product Designer students as part of the NHS project. The project involved four clinical settings of Radiology, A&E and Maternity across three Scottish hospitals. I was one of four studio teachers where I tutored two groups with Ian. These mostly took a design critique format where the students would present their work in progress, and I would share feedback and guidance using my background of design in the healthcare sector.

As the first permanent service designer based in London, and the sole service designer on my programme, I worked to take the NHS Apps Library from beta to live. I collaborated closely with an Agile team based in Leeds to translate insights into opportunities and to map service blueprints. I helped establish a service design community, spread service design practices, and raise the profile of service design across NHS Digital. Working at one of the UK’s leading cancer care charities within their Innovation and Strategic Partnerships team I helped integrate and implement service design practices. This involved breaking down and re-designing the design process in a way that is understandable to non-designers, yet still demonstrates the value this will ultimately bring to people affected by cancer. Customer Experience Design Intern

Working within the public sector as the Service Design Intern in the Service Design & Innovation directorate meant I was immersed in the full design process: from customer research and workshop facilitating, to prototyping, testing, and bringing ideas into reality. I was privileged to work with team members within my directorate and from other departments, as well as engaging with external partners and stakeholders. The projects I worked on ranged from insight gathering and prototyping for new and existing online tools, workshop facilitating and wire-framing for a large overhaul of an existing website, and creating personas and being part of the strategic development for their future services.

I had the privilege to be invited to be part of the Plan team for an extremely busy three months, where I helped them across a wide range of areas and projects which followed them from a packed summer. As an intern here my responsibilities included capturing the key information which resulted from qualitative customer interviews, visualising insights, and creating workshop tools while being immersed in the studio environment. Working in collaboration with two other girls we translated a document for The 27th Region from French to English. We were chosen as this was a design document and we needed a certain design vocabulary which is not always easy to translate directly. As part of the Lionheart Challenge I travelled to London, Coventry and Bolton for workshops for high school children between the ages of 14 and 16 for an entrepreneurial challenge. My position as a Product Design Expert was to offer the children advice in the idea generation process, research in the feasibility of their ideas in suggesting what technologies they could use, and help in making their idea come to life using Maxon Cinema 4D computer software. Lighting Designer
-
Dec 2009 - May 2010
Working in collaboration with a student from James Watt College who had special needs we had to design and create a lighting design in honour of the centenary of The Glasgow School of Art.Each week we met in the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum for workshops where we researched Charles Rennie Mackintosh, experimented with materials, and played with the effects of light and shadow. We exhibited our development work in the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, and our final works in the Mackintosh Church.I personally designed and distributed the posters for the event and wrote the press release.
