Research was conducted to examine the effects of estrogen on various yeast strains by observing the influence on morphology and catabolism by varying the concentrations of estrogen. Working in the lab, I gained practical experience in operating centrifuges, spectrophotometers and stovetop autoclaves. I was required to adhere to strict health and safety practises following MAF and ERMA regulations. From this work experience I learnt the importance of co-operation and time management, as I often had to liaise with my supervisor and lab technician for equipment and access to restricted yeast strains. Time management was very important as I had to set up 4 -16 hour incubations and structured my work around the incubation times to be as productive as possible. Show less
