      • Sep 2016 - Aug 2018

My main responsibilities include teaching KS3, KS4 and KS5 chemistry following the new Edexcel exam board. I have lead the planning for the new GCSE and A level, ensuring dynamic and differentiated lessons for use by the chemistry department. After a year at the school I was offered the role of head of KS3 science, which involves writing the scheme of work, lesson planning, all data evaluation, and management of all KS3 science teachers. I have designed an engaging and challenging curriculum, which has been praised by staff and pupils, which I am extremely proud of. For extra student support I run revision resource lessons to give students one-on-one time to reflect on and hone their revision techniques. I enjoy the pedagogy of revision, and have worked with students to allow them to find their own styles. I also work to embed Thinking Skills in my lessons, which ties in well with the TOK aspect of the IB. I took on the role of co-ordinating the student academic monitors (student support) for the chemistry department. Which allows GCSE students the chance to have a sixth form mentor to help work through difficult GCSE content to ensure students can achieve outstanding results. I have also set up an intervention programme for GCSE and A level chemistry. Differentiated extra sessions are run on a weekly basis for students, which are well attended in both key stages. I am pleased to have been rated ‘outstanding’ from learning walks and formal observations by the head of chemistry and head of science. I have worked to improving a struggling department to raise the profile of chemistry and grades across KS4 and 5, which the results are being seen in grades. I loved being a member of the Fort Pitt community, and am passionate in ensuring that every student can reach their full potential. Show less

As a chemistry teacher, I work hard to plan engaging and current lessons for key stages 3, 4 and 5. I incorporate thinking skills into all lessons, and work to encourage students passion for science and push them to achieve good grades and life skills in and out of school.
