I encourage students to not only build proficiency on the piano, but an appreciation for music. I work to promote my student's enjoyment of piano while building a strong sense of confidence from their musical journey. Dr.Chen's project focused on applying a combination of quantitative research measures to assess reading skills in typically-developing and at-risk early elementary students (Senior Kindergarten to Grade 2) in French Immersion programs across the Toronto area. I worked with a team of fellow research assistants, and graduate students to apply measures intended to access students' nonverbal reasoning, oral language proficiency, word reading, reading comprehension, and phonological processing. During this time, I also worked on minor research projects such as evaluating morphological errors in Grade 2-3 students French vocabulary focusing on categories of suffix errors which involved analyzing results, and working collaboratively with graduate students to evaluate the results. I worked to help find and organize French language and math ressources for a deployment project in Lebanon on Rumie's LearnCloud, an online ressource archive with content on a range of different subjects targeted to help students at every level and in a variety of languages. I strived to find materials which were relevant to the curriculum, as well as to social issues relevant to students in their daily life. It was especially exciting to contribute to this philanthropic education project which focused on maximizing technology to improve learning outcomes for students across the world in remote areas and challenging social circumstances.
