My time at the Office of the Child Advocate was a perfect introduction to Family Law. The Office of the Child Advocate works to protect the children of Delaware through advocacy and legal representation for those who have experienced child abuse or neglect. Some of my responsibilities I had were to attend Dependency/Neglect hearings in Family Court and draft summaries of what occurred and participate in reviews of child deaths and near deaths due to abuse and neglect. While learning I also worked on projects, such as creating a book of photos to explain the Family Court process to a youth with autism, using Microsoft Power BI to develop interactive dashboards, which will measure Delaware’s child protection system, and creating an app about Plans of Safe Care. This experience ensured that my interest in helping children and families is what I want to pursue. I learned that I not only am passionate about it, but also that I am able to handle working with abuse victims. I would not have been able to confirm this in the classroom.

In my internship experience I worked on leadership and team development projects for 5 multinational clients. Throughout the experience I assisted in executing training and strategy events in New York City and New Orleans. I learned more about how companies adjust their strategies given the evolution of the world and of their culture. I was excited to take part in surfacing and identifying key behaviors for what makes a team successful in their own specific culture. I spent significant time researching and validating client interview data to develop custom materials. I feel that my experience has equipped me to identify with leadership and team behaviors quicker, how to manage them in others, and how to measure success based on evidence of those behaviors.
