Motorola Solutions (formerly Symbol Technologies) is a manufacturer of ruggedized handheld devices. In addition to the standard mobile device hardware, Symbol incorporates a number of value-added features that are valuable in an industrial environment including: barcode scanner, magnetic stripe reader, wireless LAN, imager and color camera. In order for software developers to take full advantage of the value added devices, special developers kits have been implemented known as the Symbol Mobility Developers Kits (SMDKs). My primary responsibilities involved development and maintenance of the SMDKs for the .NET Framework, and Java. • Responsible for Design, Low Level Design and System Architecture for Java and .NET SMDK. • Heavy use of C# in the development of wrapper classes. • Utilized .NET Interop in order to call native functions to directly access the device drivers. • Implementation and maintenance of Java classes to wrap the drivers for value-added Symbol devices. • Utilising the Java Native Interface (JNI) to make direct calls into the device drivers for the device. • Development of samples using C# and VB.NET to illustrate key features of the developers kit. • Control integration into Visual Studio.NET 2003 and Visual Studio 2005 • Creation of training documentation (including PowerPoint slides) and training of support personnel. • Creation of detailed technical documentation.
