  - With 100+ members, Northwestern’s FSAE team (NFR) annually designs, builds from scratch, and races a formula-style car against 250+ other student teams. This year, NFR is transitioning to an electric vehicle by designing all EV essential components in order to have a functioning EV by 2023.- Overseeing the design of a 600V, 200A battery pack for NU FSAE’s first ever electric vehicle.- Delegating sub-projects to new members, coordinating meetings with manufacturing sponsors, completing cost analysis for various manufacturing methods and off the shelf components, designing parts and assemblies in SolidWorks, leading design reviews, and developing thorough safety and testing procedures.- Managing design choices: cell selection, connections between cells and segments, bus bars, layout andsegmentation of the battery, container and ebox design, cooling, interface with the battery management system, and integration with other parts of the vehicle including chassis, suspension, and aero.- Accumulator is still in the design stage: making CAD models of potential layouts, reworking initial designs based on feedback and new constraints from manufacturers, and planning manufacturing methodology.   - Problem: excessive voltage drops led to inconsistent engine turnover and unexpected car shutdowns. Solution: implemented functionality to cut power to certain devices based on battery voltage when starting the car and while driving. Successful design led to first competition in recent years where electrical issues didn’t compromise performance.- Problem: due to the iterative nature of the inherited design and a lack of documentation, the PDM’s layout was confusing and its functionality was minimally understood. Solution: fully redesigned the PCB with a more coherent layout and then thoroughly documented it for future team members’ understanding.
