On joining the company, I was promoted to the role of Senior Conference Producer in the Defence Team and was tasked with producing the company’s two highest-grossing events – CBRN Response and Global MilSatCom. They are both three-day events and will have 100+ and 200+ attendees respectively plus numerous sponsors and media supporters. After four months, I was then promoted to the Head of Energy due to my experience in thesector and I presently fulfill a hybrid role which encompasses production, sponsorship and marketing. I amcurrently producing SMi’s third biggest event, E&P Information and Data Management, which already has £30kworth of sponsorship packages sold on it. My responsibilities also include:• Scheduling and content • Event structure• Data acquisition and initiation of marketing contra deals • Maintaining external relations and establishment of advisory boards• Competitor analysis• Production staffing and training • Team management• Managing client and partner relationships effectively• Liaising with other departments on behalf of Production• Website management, including ensuring that all event information was up-to-date

I was involved in the organisation and production of two conferences (price risk management, fuel trading and bunkering) as well as two training programmes (crude oil trading, petrochemicals and petroleum products). My many duties included finding speakers, researching the sector to create the programmes, although I was also responsible for all areas of event management and administration, (organising accommodation and visas, acting as host for the speakers and delegates on the day, etc). In addition, I covered all aspects of advertising and marketing (marketing briefs, sales copy, arranging contra deals with media sponsors) as well as securing sponsorship from various banks and businesses, for example Nymex and BP. With my assistance, the last event saw delegate numbers more than double from the previous year.

      • Nov 2002 - Mar 2004

My main responsibility was to transmit live subtitles for Sky News, the news channel of the year. It was a role which required an excellent knowledge and understanding of domestic and foreign affairs as well as the ability to work in a team, and independently, to half-hour deadlines. The role involved detailed research, proof reading, bulletin coordination and training of new staff. Whilst at the company, I also was involved in providing Russian to English subtitles for another satellite programme, The Russian Hour. My work at Sky involved an intensive rolling shift pattern of three 12-hour days on, three days off. These days off allowed me to take on interpreting assignments and increase my knowledge of commodity markets by working at Bunkerworld
