If there is one trait that defines Lorna, it’s intuition. She has a sixth sense for finding and developing and leading events that would bring the community and our organisation together. Her speciality, I would say, is event management that will shape a community and create stories. Her efforts will strengthen your links with the community and your users. An excellent team worker and a contagiously optimistic and positive leader.

Working as part of Bike for Good's newly-formed Active Travel team, of the larger Community Outreach team, I manage all internal and external events for the group. With an emphasis on community engagement, these include film screenings, information events and a range of cycling activities - all aimed at getting the people of Glasgow travelling by bike! I also work as planning assistant directly with the Head of Community Outreach to create annual large-scale events Glasgow Women on Wheels Festival (G-WOW), and closed-road events throughout the city.My experience with communications is put to work supporting the Active Travel team to promote our activities to as wide an audience as possible, working in connection with Bike for Good's Communications Coordinator, and attending external community network gatherings on behalf of the organisation. Here is a short summary of my roles:- Created a calendar of events at the company designed to enable the social enterprise to reach a wide audience and to create genuine connections within the community in carrying out the charity’s mission.- Created strong links with other community organisations and found new ways that the company can develop through partnerships that foster a wider diversity of participants.- Created events with the intention to engage the immediate, hugely diverse community around the Govanhill cycle hub in the South of the city.- Disseminated information on the company’s events and programmes via a wide range of mediums, designing campaigns via print and online with specific attention to accessibility.- Supported the delivery of activities and sessions across all organisation departments when required; including leading rides and group cycle training, as well as promoting public engagement.- Represented the company at various external presentations and events, including speaking publicly about the organisation and its work. The Glasgow Women On Wheels 2021 Cycling Festival will ignite the city throughout the month of September, empowering women and gender non-conforming people to get cycling via talks, film screenings, cycle rides, cycle lessons, seminars and more. Here is a summary of my roles:- Programmed and delivered Glasgow Women on Wheels: a month-long cycle festival which aimed to address the lack of women and non-binary people in Glasgow’s cycling community - particularly those from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic backgrounds.- Delivered 50 free events across every day in September with 517 participants attending overall, including dedicated film screenings, Q&As and speaker events, hosted both online and in person across venues in Glasgow.- Hosted several events including a panel Q&A on female experiences of cycling infrastructure, interviews with film makers and smaller talks about Periods, Pregnancy and Menopause While Cycling. - Helped create lasting legacies beyond the festival with the creation of the Women of Colour Cycling Group, the launch of which took place during the festival.- Cultivated a menu of guest speakers and workshop coordinators consisting of a wide range of diverse and inspiring women and non-binary people in the world of cycling, both locally and globally. - Developed and maintained monitoring and evaluation systems for the purposes of monitoring attendee diversity and the impact of the festival on individuals - including Equal Opportunities forms, case studies and in-person data gathering.- Worked collaboratively with support from partners Scottish Cycling and Glasgow Life to deliver the festival. I have been tasked with the researching and developing a Cycling Loyalty card for the South City Way. The aim of the card is to encourage greater levels of active travel in the local area. The card will be aimed at and marketed to all local potential users of the South City Way (spanning from Queen Street to Merchant City) via the neighbouring community, businesses, and community group.

In this position, I served as a member of catering staff teams in various venues around Edinburgh and Glasgow ranging from small weddings to large-scale silver service events. I worked as bar staff, wine waiter and catering assistant: serving food and beverages in table service settings. I adapted well to new settings and easily took on active roles within new teams of co-workers, and diligently followed instructions and showed good initiative in resolving problematic situations.
