cancer.JE is a local online resource hub for anyone affected by cancer, from patients to professionals. It is a non-medical site as it is about the day to day living while affected by cancer, and ways to make life easier. We are run by a team of people affected by cancer (either with cancer, have had cancer, or have a relative with cancer). We also have two cancer professionals on our Board as we know how easy it can be to inadvertently do harm, especially with a subject as complex as cancers. It includes: - Jersey-specific information on where to get support, - easy access to local government information relevant to cancer patients (inc. financial), - tips for dealing with side effects of treatment or symptoms of cancer, - sign-posting to reliable and trustworthy sources of information on cancer, - a Directory to help people find services and products locally is under development. The running costs of cancer.JE are met by the Founder, with very kind donation of the website from Corefocus Consultancy Ltd. Future aims: - getting the main Directory complete so it is easier for people in Jersey to find charitable and statutory cancer services in Jersey, - completing the second Directory which will be for related services in Jersey (again charitable or statutory), - completing the third Directory which will aim to make people aware of the various 'medical' products on-island which may be of use to them, and where they can be found. My first permanent post having finally gained the hallowed Entitled for Work status. I trained with the UK Met Office gaining the Initial Forecasting Certificate. Further to this, and on the job training, I worked my way up to Forecaster II. This meant being the Duty Forecaster for the Channel Islands in the evening, mainly dealing with aviation forecasting, shipping forecasting and forecasting for the public. Having met my now-husband through the Open University I moved to Jersey. While holding Registered status in Jersey I worked for a couple of companies as well as doing temp-work. These jobs utilised my existing skill set. I also undertook a Certificate in Human Resource as part of an HR Assistant role. My first role upon gaining Entitled for Work status was providing maternity cover as an HR Officer at Jersey General Hospital. Having met my now-husband through the Open University I moved to Jersey. Having left university (studying Chemistry and Biology) due to illness I proceeded to work my way up in business. Through the years I chose employment that would allow me to develop a broad range of skills and gain experience of different industries. The companies I worked for during this time were a local audio-visual industry; a global shipping agent; and an education and development charity. I also worked part-time for a small record company throughout. By the time I moved to Jersey I had held all the following responsibilities: - book-keeping (to year end); - producing management accounts; - all aspects of administration inc. training administrators to NVQ3 level; - writing annual reports, promotional material and training manuals/courses; - creating and maintaining databases using SQL; - automating documents and spreadsheets using Visual Basic; - maintaining the shipping agent's compliance with Lloyds Register; - initiating and maintaining the charity's compliance with O.S.C.R.; - liaising with the Secretaries of trade unions and the Scottish Executive; - writing a database to accurately distribute PRS and MSPC royalties to artists; - writing and submitting national and EU grant applications; - working to a client's brief to creative unique items for their events; - organising and managing conferences for global professionals; - deputising for the Managing Director.
