As part of the loyalty client team, I collaborated with team members and project stakeholders to develop the Tally loyalty & CRM solution for our client, a worldwide hospitality brand. I developed project solutions over long, iterative development cycles using Spring, Hibernate, and AngularJS. These projects ranged from one-developer affairs to efforts spread across multiple teams. I also contributed code and relational database design to these projects. I led initial integration of Elasticsearch to handle high-volume processing in our primary business transactions. I served as mentor to a new developer with no prior professional experience. I provided technical advice, professional guidance, and served as the go-to pair programmer when circumstances warranted. As the version control subject-matter-expert, I drove improvements to our version control workflow and code review process. I then took on the secondary role of coding standards SME, pushing new standards and best practices, especially with regard to consistency and performance. Show less

I implemented custom solutions for client school districts to fit their specific needs. In collaboration with those clients, I worked with them to develop requirements and plan technical development work to fit their needs. I also worked to turn Online Registration from a popular client-specific customization into an iteratively-developed service with ongoing development to improve the core application. I oversaw our team's transition from legacy version control to a git workflow, and drafted & implemented standards to make ongoing development a sustainable practice. Under the Online Registration umbrella, I also: * wrote and deployed a health staff tool to ease the work of school nurses helping incoming students with health conditions * improved frameworks in the tool to turn awkward user-level solutions into "it just works" system-level solutions * analyzed captures from our front-end framework to improve responsiveness by an average factor of 20x - this included improving a critical component's runtime performance from O(n^3) to O(n) I implemented the prototype and core engine for the Campus Workflow automated attendance system. This was a challenging project which required new development in low-level server business, and had large-scale critical performance implications. As part of development, I deployed Angular (the modern Typescript version) single-page applications for administrator workflows, wrote a ground-up, performant TCP server using the Netty framework, and created an attendance-resolving job which would asynchronously reconcile incoming reported (positive, assumed absent) attendance with recorded (negative, assumed present) attendance. This product has now been deployed in school districts with hundreds of thousands of students checking in every class period with no increase in infrastructure requirements. Furthermore, as of 2020 the attendance system is now the fastest-growing premium product offering that Infinite Campus offers. Show less

General programming duties - helped to develop, test, and maintain ERP solutions for warehouse management in corporate databse environments. I learned the basics of database-centric enterprise applications, and the imperative, mixed-business-and-database-logic nature of the language used taught me new and interesting aspects of data handling en-masse. As my first team-based development work, I also learned important lessons about collaborative development, project management & lifecycles, and the basics of enterprise software testing. I also worked on several individual projects, creating a new internal "meet the team" website using ASP.NET and a dependency-finding tool using C#. Show less
