In collaboration with a team of experts, I helped devise a program-wide conceptual framework for a new and unprecedented training initiative, Occupation-Specific Language Training Program (OSLT). The framework thoughtfully integrated a complex set of design requirements and provided both a robust and nimble structure that has supported the program through several years of growth and evolution. Since that first year, I have been working as the program's lead curriculum writer designing technology-enhanced, blended and 100% online courses. The courses provide engaging language and workplace cultural communication training for internationally educated professionals. They span over 20 occupations across diverse sectors, such as accounting and finance, entrepreneurship, project management, technology, construction trades, human services and health care. Show less

Working on a small team, I co-designed two in-person nursing-specific communication courses and their online equivalents. I was responsible for coming up with the overall structure of the courses and worked with subject matter experts to script the course content. I also worked with audio and video production teams to produce a variety of multi-media instructional materials. Manager of Language Support

2005 - 2008
I led the vision and development of an innovative nursing-specific language and workplace culture program from the ground up, in consultation with stakeholders and subject matter experts. This included the creation of the eLearning Lounge, a cutting edge online learning tool. The work I spearheaded at CARE became an exemplary model for bridge training programs across the country. In this managerial role, I also: hired, trained, supported and mentored instructors and curriculum developers; advised CARE staff, health care institutions and college partners on ESL and cultural diversity issues; fostered relationships with employers, as well as education and community partners; wrote funding proposals, completed narrative reports and managed budgets. This is the project I was describing in the "About" section above when I said I had "cracked the code". It really was a very cool curriculum that taught me what is possible when given the opportunity to dream up what could be.
