As part of the AMURAP (Antimicrobial Use and Resistance in Animal Production) project I performed the first detailed investigation into antimicrobial use (AMU) in Irish pig farming, explored the risk factors for AMU and evaluated how the use of different AMU metrics impacts a benchmarking system. I also conducted a longitudinal study investigating how AMU affects the development of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in Escherichia coli as well as in the wider microbiota and its associated resistome during the production cycle.
