  I rose through the ranks from police officer to Chief of Police. I started with the department as a cadet at age 14 and served as a sworn officer from November 1978 to July 2002. Upon being appointed as Chief of Police I commanded over a staff of approximately 80 police officers and 30 other staff members. Through my career I performed duties as patrol officer, desk sergeant, training officer, firearms instructor, range master, defensive tactics instructor, OC spray instructor, field training officer coordinator and instructor, ethics instructor, crime scene investigator, investigations manager, and command staff officer over the patrol division. In 1995 I graduated in the 182nd Session of the FBI National Academy. I also was an adjunct instructor at the Mississippi Delta Community College Police Training Academy and Mississippi Law Enforcement Training Academy. Also I served as a member of the department's Emergency Services Division as team member, rescue diver, and EMT. I served as Secretary for several years as the secretary of the Mississippi Association of Highway Safety Leaders. I served on the Mississippi Jail Officers Standards Board as a representative of the Mississippi Association of Chiefs of Police from 2003 to 2004. I served as the President of the Mississippi Chapter of the FBI National Academy Associates from 2002 to 2004. Show less
