The Just Transition Fund is dedicated to helping coal-impacted communities build strong, resilient, and diversified new economies that work for everyone. This includes places left behind after coal mining operations have ceased, and those where coal-fired power plants are no longer in service. My (virtual) role was to manage office processes and tools, helping to define tasks and projects that support programs on the ground. The Shenandoah National Park Trust

Charlottesville, Virginia
-
Data and Design Manager
-
Jun 2015 - Oct 2017
Working with the Shenandoah National Park Trust enabled me to work with a great group of staff, board and partners for one of our nation's national and historical treasures - the Shenandoah National Park. The Trust is the philanthropic partner for Shenandoah National Park and raises funds to support projects to preserve natural and historical resources, connect people to the park, educate young people about the outdoors and national parks, and enhance the work of the National Park Service and its employees. Data Responsibilities: I led the successful transfer of an existing database to the DonorPerfect database platform, testing and monitoring system for accuracy and deploying new mechanisms for data management. The system successfully managed donor gift and acknowledgement information, relationship and contact management data, grant application status and information, and organizational revenue reporting. The new system has positively affected operations across the organization, made data retrieval easier for users, enabled faster, more reliable revenue and other reporting, and increased efficiency in utilizing data for donor communication, mailings and tracking. Design Responsibilities: I designed and produced a full range of marketing and communications materials, including annual reports, brochures, website, video, email marketing, event signage and materials, donor recognition gifts, and apparel. My work leaves the organization with templates to use for future communication and brand promotion, and received consistently positive feedback from donors, partner organizations and park staff. Tools developed: website, electronic newsletter, annual "impact" report, annual project "field guide," invitations, notecards, website re-design and management, a Donor Perfect database and manuals for the database and design responsibilities. Safe Schools/Healthy Students - Albemarle/Charlottesville
-
Charlottesville, Virginia
-
Project Coordinator
-
Dec 2009 - Jun 2014
My primary responsibilities with SS/HS were related to communications - linking program objectives and personnel with the school and community partners and students who could benefit from grant-funded initiatives. I have capitalized on the knowledge and skills I've gained in my (well, okay - substantially) varied work experiences, using both the office structure and management skills and messaging and marketing skills gained. At the same time I truly appreciated the opportunity to learn as much as I could about public education and the many and varied needs that must be addressed in our community. This, and having the opportunity to work with many education professionals and organizations that serve those needs, was one of the best parts of this position. Safe Schools/Healthy Students - both the federal program and local initiatives - focused on prevention and working to help communities draw on existing resources and partner organizations to maximize benefits for students and schools. It was a government initiative that benefited the Charlottesville-Albemarle community greatly and is a great example of agency collaboration, cooperation and partnership. It was an invaluable experience. Tools developed: website, electronic newsletter, electronic program announcements and registration processes, electronic resource library, posters, flyers and other communications tools. Show less

Office Manager
-
Oct 2004 - Sep 2009
In this position I had the opportunity to learn the hands-on, day-to-day management of a local (family-owned) company that provided a full range of tree care services. I learned about all aspects of office work in a small business (payroll, accounting, human resources, marketing, short and long-range planning). I also learned an incredible amount about trees, about the service industry, and about the incredible bank of knowledge and skills that tree care involves. I love the people I worked with and each day brought a new issue, piece of knowledge about plants or trees, or technical knowledge about equipment and/or work sites. Show less
