Plastics Engineering Intern
-
May 2015 - Jul 2015
For the duration of my ten week internship I was exposed to and learned about the principles and concepts of Quick Response Manufacturing (QRM). For two weeks I worked with Autodesk Moldflow simulation software analyzing customer CAD models, pinpointing areas of concern, determining optimal gate location, and organizing the information into a presentation for the customer. While working with Moldflow I also worked with Dassault Systemes SolidWorks CAD software where I would use the Moldflow data I obtained, and then modify customers CAD file submissions for Design for Manufacture and Design for Assembly (DFMA) purposes. For one week I worked in the Order Fulfillment Area, where I learned about QRM processes and inspection of parts using relatively complex gauges and simple measuring tools. For seven weeks I performed mold changes, machine start-ups on injection molding machines ranging from 30 ton up to 500 ton, D1 and D2 processing, and troubleshooting using scientific molding principles.

Summer Intern
-
May 2014 - Aug 2014
For several weeks I was responsible for monitoring the support staff, identifying their strengths and weaknesses, as well as making suggestions on how to improve the inefficiencies within the departments. For three weeks I worked in Mold Setup, where I assisted in changing molds as well as performing mold changes solo. I spent one week working with Quality Control, where I inspected parts, gauged parts, and used the Enterprise IQ system to log information. I spent one week as a Material Handler where I assisted in changing materials, prepping materials, and using the Enterprise IQ system to identify what is needed for upcoming mold changes. Periodically throughout the summer I was in rework where I sorted, trimmed, and marked necessary parts. One week was spent as an operator to understand what operator’s jobs entail.
