My time at Historic England was spent acting as a backfill for a Senior Developer who needed to concentrate on a larger single task. I assisted in bug fixing, adding functionality and database work to make sure the main website continued to function as intended. Alongside creating functionality within C#, I also created several Triggers / Stored Procedures using MSSQL to take the load away from the codebase. I joined HAGL (Home Appliance Guard) with a view to improving their Credit Card system and design and build a new CMS driven intranet site. My first two months were spent incorporating a new credit card system (GoCardless) into their current system, which also needed to retain its original credit card system. Once the credit card system was complete, I set to work on their intranet system, going through design stages, requirements and final release expectations with various department heads and management. All server development at HAGL was C# .NET/MVC, SQL Server, alongside HTML, CSS, JS (including jQuery, various libraries and self-built plug-ins). Show less

Covering for one of their developers for two months, I took over tasks, such as ensuring the bug lists were prioritised and worked on; front-end changes were taken care of, such as making sure out of date events were no longer displayed without needed someone to remove them manually. One of the issues I came across with CUSU was that they were not a Web Development team, but an office of good intentioned IT hardware experts; their changes were made in the live environment, their MySQL database calls from the code were overly complicated with no use of joins. I left them with some helpful advice and ways in which they could lessen the stress of a large release. Show less

My time at 288 was spent covering all manner of bug fixes and adding to existing code, adding functionality and database work to make sure the main website continued to function as intended. I also made sure that all front-end functionality worked as requested, using various JavaScript libraries, CSS and HTML. My main role at Ayrmer was to take to completion a CMS based E-Commerce site using PHP and MySQL as the main platform, using various JavaScript libraries to enhance functionality. The project was at a barebones stage when I came on board and the paperwork was in a very poor state. After taking a few days sorting out the paperwork and familiarizing myself with their own PHP framework, I spent the next three months coding and testing until the customer was satisfied. This involved setting up several more relational database tables to assist in processing the baskets (saving, recovering, altering), the checkout process (multiple cars, addresses, customers per account) and adding orders / quotations based on the state of the order. The E-Commerce process involved using Sage Pay and processing the various success / failed responses. Show less

I worked for Furlong for a couple of months to assist in finishing off and testing their new online software for schools. Primarily coded in C# and therefore using MSSQL, the main section of software I worked on was for the staff access to different levels of the software hierarchy. This involved finish off setting up the login and ensuring that every access level was accounted for and no cross contamination of access occurred. I also took care of finishing off the card scanner clocking in system to allow for several login and logouts to be recording rather than single in and single out. Show less

Upon joining the company, my first major task was to proceed with the creation of 12 new websites, a combination of new and updates. Some of the sites had been created in the early 2000s and rarely updated. All the sites have been/are being created using CodeIgniter, my MVC of choice. Along with incorporating Web Services (SOAP, although I have worked with RESTful Web Services in the past), I use a variety of languages to put the sites together, including HTML, CSS, JS (jQuery), PHP. I write all my own jQuery functions and plug-ins where I can; this is so that I can tailor it specifically to individual needs without the bloat of extra unnecessary functionality weighing the code down. I also took care of all the literature, ensuring that all images had been properly formatted and enhanced where required. The promotional literature layouts up until then had been inconsistent and without any uniformity. I had several templates set up for each type of literature so there was a common feel. Show less

My main role at Trakm8 was the updating of the web interface functionality used for tracking vehicles and vehicle states. The system, which uses JavaScript as the mainframe is built using PHP and JavaScript. The updates are consistent as the technology improves for vehicle tracking. The system was undergoing a major update, which involved a lot of re-coding, including converting some old ActionScript code which was used in an old Flash interface and left behind to keep the system stable. One of the major updates I had been involved in was the creation of a new report engine driven mainly by PHP; this included creating a system for exporting the reports as PDF files using FPDF, as well as Excel and CSV files. The software had to be constantly checked for compatibility during updates as our clients use a range of browsers, including some who still use Internet Explorer 6. I was also involved in mobile application development (Android) using C# in Xamarin IDE. I have been directly responsible for the front-end development of two major mobile applications for two major clients who use our software. I was involved in creating two APIs for two of our clients, involving the use of Web Services (WSDL) and class creation. Although most of my work was client- and server-side functionality, I had to be aware of the layout and design of the software to ensure perfect integration. Show less
