As Digital Designer at NewZapp email marketing I was responsible for proofing designs for email marketing templates using customer's branding guidelines, and for building and testing HTML emails. I also helped to shape the way the company appoached responsive email production, and produced graphical assets for the company's website and marketing, as well as user interface designs. I was also involved in the building of the latest version of the NewZapp software using XSL and JQuery. As a student ambassador I work with university students and children aged 13-16, and from this I have learned leadership skills, as well as a great sense of responsibility for the health and safety, and confidentiality of others around me. This role also showed me the joy of being able to make a difference to young people’s aspirations in life, and has distilled in me a passion for trying to encourage people to reach their full potential into higher education. Between year's 2 and 3 on my degree, I took a year out in industry to gain more experience. Working within a small team, I was responsible for my own workload and time keeping, to liaise with students and academic subject matter experts to create bespoke digital learning resources. This role has not only greatly enhanced my digital and communication skills, but given me the flexibility to work in a rapidly changing environment. I have worked for a variety of companies including a dementia care home, web development companies and a children’s safety clothing brand, which has given me professional experience across a wide range of print and web design, but also in tailoring my work to the required audience. I worked with university students and children aged 8-19, and from this I have learned leadership skills, as well as a passion for enabling children from less privileged backgrounds to literally 'aim higher'! Because of the skills I have gained working with children as a student ambassador, I was accepted to work on stop-motion animation workshops with children aged 5-12, and disabled adults. From this I developed the ability to pitch material at a relevant level for the audience, as well as good communication and organisational skills. As a waitress, I not only had to welcome and serve customers, but also played a key role in up keeping the brand of the Beefeater chain. I gained invaluable experience of working as a team member in a high-pressured professional environment, where working with colleagues in a tight time frame was paramount to good customer service and brand reputation.
