As part of the team delivering Waltham Forest London Borough of Culture 2019, I project managed our flagship volunteer programme, Legends of the Forest. This involved contract management of our external volunteer management provider, leading on our recruitment, retention and staff engagement programme, and working with partners to design a wide range of volunteer roles across the year-long programme that would engage and develop our incredible volunteers. After I left Waltham Forest, Legends of the Forest continued to go from strength to strength, and became the official route for volunteering during the Covid-19 pandemic. As a graduate management trainee, I completed a series of secondments across the local authority, gaining expertise in leadership and project management. I undertook a year-long placement in the Council's Community Safety team, where I co-ordinated the London Prevent Board on behalf of Waltham Forest's Chief Executive, who is the Board's Chair. The London Prevent Board is a multi-agency governance group which exists to review Prevent delivery across London. My role involved agenda-setting to ensure the Board fulfils its strategic priorities, briefing the Chief Executive on wider Prevent matters, as well as project work on quality assurance and commissioning. Working with the Office for Security and Counter-Terrorism at the Home Office, I developed a self-assessment tool for local authorities to evaluate the performance of their local partnerships in delivering Prevent. I co-designed the tool with local authority Prevent leads, and then led on piloting the tool in London. In my two years at Waltham Forest, I have also led on projects relating to gangs prevention and tackling Violence against Women and Girls. This included coordinating and writing a successful bid to the Home Office for £350,000 for a 3-year programme promoting healthy relationships in secondary schools. Show less

During my year out from university, I worked for London Works, a social enterprise and recruitment agency which places graduates from diverse backgrounds into employment and seeks to address the issues around unconscious bias in the elite professions. This role involved providing a complete administrative service to clients, candidates and our team of four consultants. I maintained up-to-date candidate registration and reference files, ensuring 100% compliance, alongside managing the team's diary, expenses and travel. While at London Works, I identified opportunities to use my interests in communications and marketing as additional parts of the role. I wrote the monthly introduction for the ELBA newsletter, which was read by a broad audience of professionals from over 100 companies in the City and Canary Wharf. I also maintained London Works' social media accounts, ensuring daily engagement with clients, candidates and stakeholders. This improved our Twitter follower count by 250%. The role also came to involve project management, and I coordinated projects including a student Insight Day with Macquarie Bank which received an unprecedented 100% attendance, and a report on candidate performance when placed in employment.
