    • Family Engagement Coordinator
      • Aug 2014 - Feb 2018

As a school-based partner, I served as a liaison between the Academy of World Languages and students’ families, building relationships with parents and working to make school communications as accessible to them as possible. I often connected parents to resources to address concerns both at school and beyond, and led targeted outreach efforts to ensure they could navigate processes such as sibling enrollment and high school selection. I tracked parents’ contact with staff and their participation in school events or programs, and analyzed the data to evaluate the impact of our engagement strategies. I also developed an adult English program, and as its coordinator was responsible for hiring and managing instructors, budgeting funds, and reporting on the success of the program.

    • Learning Links AmeriCorps volunteer
      • Aug 2013 - Jun 2014

In the Learning Links after-school program for students in grades 3-5, I wrote engaging lesson plans emphasizing Virginia Standards of Learning and reading comprehension strategies. Following the project-based learning model, I guided students in devising their own science experiment. I also led a theatre club, and directed a student production of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. In addition, I maintained records of participants’ attendance, behavior, and academic progress, and regularly updated the program’s database to reflect this information.

    • Refugee School Impact Grant Manager
      • Dec 2012 - Jun 2013

As coordinator of an after-school program for refugee students in grades K-8, I attended to all logistical details including student transportation, recruited and managed volunteers, and reported program outcomes. I also planned events to share information and resources with new American families. In addition, a partnership I fostered between Withrow and Xavier University resulted in the MuskieTigers, a mentoring program for immigrant and refugee students hoping to be the first in their families to attend college in the U.S.

    • After-school Club Facilitator
      • Aug 2012 - Nov 2012

During the fall session of AWL’s Dragon Zone after-school program, I facilitated weekly European Cooking and Quidditch clubs for students in grades 5-8, and a Multi-media Art club for students in grades 1-3. For each club I developed a curriculum that aligned to the Common Core Standards and incorporated service learning opportunities.
