CDC is the UK’s development finance institution. Founded 70 years ago, we invest in the most challenging markets of Africa and South Asia with the aim of supporting economic development. CDC has net assets of £5.1bn, with over 1300 growing businesses in the portfolio. I'm CDC's Risk Manager and I'm responsible for developing and implementing our risk management framework, with a focus on Operational Risk, including: Board oversight of risk - I helped to establish a stand-alone Board level Risk Committee. I work with the non-executive Chair of the Committee to ensure the Committee has oversight of the principal risk exposures by developing agendas and ensuring papers are of appropriate quality. I also produce and present a consolidated risk management report to the Committee and to Executive Management on a regular basis. Developing our risk framework - I have established a risk framework tailored to CDC's operating environment, including risk policy and risk appetite statements, a rolling programme of departmental risk assessments, key risk indicators (KRIs) incorporated into management reporting and country, sector and single party limits. Developing our policy framework - I established and maintain an intranet-based policy library allowing employees to easily find and understand the policies, procedures and guidance relevant to their roles. Supporting key risk initiatives - I helped to establish a travel risk management programme that ensures our staff can travel safely to the hardest places, to support achievement of our mission. I also maintain our Business Continuity Plans and support our Crisis Management Team in the event of an emergency. I'm currently working with our IT team to strengthen our Information Security programme including updated policies and user education and training.
