Responsible for ensuring that risks and controls within the wider Finance and Payroll functions were monitored and reported quarterly to Thomas Cook Group Finance and that improvements to controls were made as required. Also, ensuring the annual review took place of controls for the Senior Accounting Officer return for the majority of UK&I businesses and assisting Thomas Cook Group Finance in the completion of the return to HMRC. The role further included the monitoring of progress towards closing Internal and External Audit points. Key achievements included:o Successful implementation of a new balance sheet reconciliation template and revised scoring matrix in line with Thomas Cook Group policy before the year end of September 2017.o For the first seven months of this role I retained responsibility for a large portion of the Thomas Cook Tour Operations work from my previous role.o Involvement in the assessment of BlackLine as a potential reconciliation tool.o Being deployed to the Dominican Republic and Cuba as part of a Special Assistance Team to support customers with personal safety, hotel and flight issues during Hurricane Irma. Responsible for monitoring the balance sheet for Thomas Cook Tour Operations Ltd, including monthly balance sheet review meetings with the Business Partnering team and Finance Director during which material balances and risks and opportunities were discussed. This required working closely with the Business Process Outsourcing partner to ensure they were fulfilling our requirements for accurate reporting, including visits to their offices in India. The role further involved working with both Internal and External Auditors and with the Financial Reporting team for the provision of group reporting. As part of this role I had responsibility for one member of staff. Key achievements included:o Stabilising the provision of reporting for charter tour operations, part of Thomas Cook Tour Operations, following the restructure of mid-2015.o Working with other departments to resolve issues, for example UK Treasury regarding settlements, and assisting in reporting to the business, for example seasonal destination reporting.
