I was the president of Leadership Ohio when we chose Lisa to serve as our executive director. Lisa has more than fulfilled my wildest dreams in the role as a thought leader, strategic partner and pragmatic problem solver. Lisa has truly transformed Leadership Ohio from a struggling, under-performing organization with potential to one that is thriving on a course for long-term success. Lisa has proven herself to demonstrate vision and to know what it takes to achieve lofty goals. I have been so impressed with Lisa’s emotional intelligence and perseverance to handle some tough challenges. Perhaps above all else, Lisa is simply a delightful person who is intellectually curious and passionate about wanting others to be successful. She does not seek the limelight or attention, but seems to know how and when to put the spotlight on others and let them shine. Lisa is simply one of the strongest, most competent leaders with whom I have ever worked. I am so glad I know her and have had the privilege to work alongside her.

Our team in Brazil worked with Lisa after we commissioned a report to analyse best practice around implementation of education technology in the US, to feed into a project to boost human capacity in Brazil’s Education Departments. Lisa was the only consultant who had the profile we were looking for: someone with extensive experience in rolling out edtech programmes in the public sector, combined with the writing skills and eye for detail of a researcher. We were delighted with the outcome. As well as producing and presenting a competently-drafted and well-pitched report, which highlighted the sheer depth and breadth of her knowledge, Lisa was also extremely reliable, committed and easy to work with. She would be an asset to any team grappling with issues around edtech use and advancement, particularly in the US context.

The process of working with Lisa Duty of Innovation Partners America has been exceptional. Within the first five minutes of speaking with Lisa, you sense her rare ability to listen and synthesize ideas on a deep level. With little background on our state’s challenges, she delved into Connecticut’s educational culture, quickly helping us identify both barriers to and opportunities for positive change. She deftly synthesizes differing stakeholder perspectives into a cohesive whole, casting a vision for what can be, informed by her wealth of national education reform experience. Our team was thrilled with the product that resulted from our work with Innovation Partners. While Charting New Frontiers in Student-Centered Learning takes a direct, confident stance in calling for a new education system centered on the graduate of the future, it also accounts for the reality of where we are now. The result of nearly a year of work with Lisa is a research-based set of practical calls to action that leverage all that is great about Connecticut’s leaders, educators, and students, with unprecedented opportunity to prepare all children for a new future.

Senior Director of Innovation
-
Mar 2006 - Apr 2013
A demonstrated record of success and achievement at this education-focused social enterprise, marked by a series of roles of increased influence, authority, and accountability over seven years, including Policy Officer, Government Relations Manager, and Director of External Affairs, culminating in advancement to Senior Director of Innovation. Managed the review of multiple Ohio education initiatives and state agencies (i.e. the Ohio Board of Regents) by numerous foundation staff and external consultants on behalf of KnowledgeWorks in service to incoming Governor Strickland and his gubernatorial transition team. Culminated in the issuance of recommendations for agency reorganization and priorities. Highlights include establishing the Chancellor as a member of the Governor's Cabinet, and the subsequent success of Ohio’s Ten Year Strategic Plan for Higher Education. Assumed leadership of efforts to successfully challenge the state’s early college access policies to the benefit of low-income, first-generation college-goers. Leveraged a bi-partisan approach to contribute to the acquisition of $40MM in funds for high school redesign projects impacting 25,000 urban students, garnering a greater than 31% increase in graduation rates at redesigned sites and over 20,000 college credit hours earned by early college high school students. Developed and directed an effective coalition supporting public awareness, policy development, and earning public funding to advance the potential of digital, online, and blended learning. Planned and executed the Ohio Digital Learning Campaign from its inception to success. Efforts culminated in the development and passage of H.B. 153 which established the Ohio Digital Learning Task Force (ODLTF) under Governor Kasich’s administration; S.B. 316 enacting the recommendations of the ODLTF; and, legislation supporting the institution of Ohio’s inaugural $230MM Straight A Innovation Fund to support innovative pilot development.
