Youth Delegate Sustainable Development (Volunteer)
-
Feb 2008 - Oct 2009
The Flemish Youth Council is the official advisory body of the Flemish Government on all matters concerning children and young people. For two years I was their Youth Delegate Sustainable Development. I represented the Flemish Youth Council in several councils on sustainability issues. I liaised with youth organisations in Flanders and with the delegates of the French speaking Youth Council and the German speaking Youth Council. In my capacity as Youth Delegate I was a member of the Belgian delegation to the United Nations Sustainable Development Commission (CSD). CSD was established to ensure the follow-up and implementation of Agenda 21. Up until 2011 CSD held yearly two-week sessions at the UN Headquarters in New York. At the 16th and 17th CSD session I advised the Belgian delegation on the policy objectives of youth on issues relating to Africa, drought and desertification, land use, agriculture, and rural development. I was also a member of the Major Group for Children and Youth, where I liaised with youth from all over the world.
