It was my honor to hire Lisa Miller as a Medical Specialist in 2008 and to work closely with her for the next 4.5 years. She came to Myriad with a wealth of knowledge and experience and quickly established herself as an accomplished and respected leader. Lisa was hired to be the first Oncology RN Medical Specialist at Myriad. With over 27 years of nursing experience, a clear vision for success, and an incredible work ethic, Lisa blazed a trail for the nurses who would follow her into the role. Her ongoing mentoring of nurses, creation of a nursing community, and true ownership of the success of RN medical specialist team made the program a huge success that has grown under her leadership. While providing the highest level clinical client support in hereditary cancer genetics, Lisa was also called on to expand the knowledge of the genetic counselor medical specialists through coursework in oncology concepts. She developed educational materials, gave stellar presentations, anticipated the educational needs of her colleagues, and never hesitated to pick up the phone to answer clinical questions from her colleagues. While leading nurses in a new role and genetic counselors in a new discipline, Lisa also led the company into the realm of oncology personalized medicine. She worked tirelessly providing input and expertise for the launches of two personalized medicine products. She did all of this while still supporting her clients in the field. Lisa’s leadership played a key role in the successful launches of those two products, resulting in Lisa’s promotion to Myriad’s first Medical Science Liaison. Lisa has the rare ability to lead with and without authority, earning the admiration and respect of all of her colleagues. She was recognized by her peers and management team with numerous honors and awards, including a departmental leadership award. Not surprisingly, Lisa was then promoted to a management position, where she inspires her team on a daily basis. I have the utmost respect for Lisa. Her professionalism, talent and expertise are beyond compare.
