  For the past 3 years, whilst being employed as a research technician, I have expanded my knowledge and handling skills specific to pigs, as well as providing technical support for a range of projects in the areas of reproduction, welfare and nutrition. This has enabled me to develop an array of skills useful across many project types including; blood sample collection on piglets, weaners and sows, the use of real-time ultrasound, inserting ear vein catheters, data collection and entry, restraint and movement of pigs of various ages, monitoring animals during surgery and post-surgery, as well as during farrowing. Furthermore, I have also had the opportunity to assist my peers working on other livestock and poultry research projects, which has considerably broadened my skills as a research technician.
