Most of my SAAO responsibilities involve instrumentation projects - including building & commissioning new instruments, supporting & upgrading existing instruments, as well as testing & trouble-shooting telescope & instrument problems. Developing the SAAO's optics lab facilities & growing our instrument development capability is a high priority, as is improving the overall performance of all of our observing facilities.Following the untimely death of Darragh O'Donoghue in June 2015, I joined the SALT Board in November as one of the two South African Directors representing the National Research Foundation (NRF). In 2017 I became a member of the Sutherland Telescopes Users Committee, to help improve our observing facilities and to facilitate communication between the Observatory & our user community.
