      Coordinated the 2018 quantitative evaluation of the APPLE Schools Northern Expansion Project. APPLE Schools (A Project Promoting healthy Living for Everyone in school communities) is an innovative school-focused health promotion initiative. It improves the lives of more than 20,000 students annually in 70 schools across northern Alberta, Northwest Territories, and Manitoba by improving their healthy eating, physical activity, and mental health habits. (www.appleschools.ca) Duties: Supervise research assistants; liaison with school leaders; oversee all data collection and analyses; write outcome reports to the Public Health Agency of Canada as well as community leaders.

      Provided emotional and social support to students and their families along with liaising between families and community support agencies. Appointed as a First Nations, Métis and Inuit Family-School Liaison for RDPSD which involved coordinating culturally appropriate events, training staff in cultural sensitivity exercises as well as connecting families to Elders and cultural organizations. Other duties: Support counselling (individual and small group), crisis intervention, preventative education, staff development, referrals to health authorities as well as helping families overcome barriers to accessing community supports. For Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) out of Three Hills, I provided social and emotional support to children and families within Kneehill County with a primary focus on youth in schools from Kindergarten to Grade 12. I also completed evaluations and compiled data for funders, as well as collaborated with community partners on various capacity building events, projects and initiatives.

      Assisted with three community-based health research projects. The first project was an evaluation of the Wetaskiwin Primary Care Network’s Prenatal Program regarding its access, reach and cultural appropriateness experienced by the local Aboriginal communities that utilized its services. The second provided innovative and collaborative findings to inform effective HIV/AIDS interventions in central Albertan Aboriginal communities. This research was published in the Canadian Journal of Aboriginal Community-Based HIV/AIDS Research Winter 2014 edition. The third was a Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) funded project that built knowledge on factors that influence visible ethnic minority immigrants’ health and well-being in smaller Canadian cities. Duties: Conducted qualitative interview assessments in individual, group and family settings with Aboriginal people in Alberta. Interviewed recent Immigrants as well as analyzed qualitative and photovoice data. Completed data analytics along with academic and lay-person reports.
