As levels of responsibility increased from a Research Assistant to an Honors Fellow, eventually an individual research project was initiated while leading and teaching junior lab members. Gained extensive Microsoft Office Suite skills along with in-depth database experience as the experiment’s design was created, participants were scheduled, experiments were facilitated, and research results were analyzed. A co-founder of the Clothing Closet at Iowa: a student service that provides all University of Iowa students access to free, accessible, and quality professional clothing for interviews, networking events, class presentations, student organization events, and other professional events. As the executive director, was responsible for creating and implementing policies and procedures of the closet. Emphasis was placed on fostering an inclusive environment for a diverse group of executive members, volunteers, and clients with sensitivity and confidentiality training. The talents of four executive team members were individually developed while pursuing long-term organizational goals as a team. The establishment of the service required acquiring funding and resources, and implementing additional initiatives, and continuing to refine operations to serve university students in the most effective ways possible. Spearheaded the establishments of the Meal-with-a-Mentor program, a native prairie on campus, and a Professional Clothing Closet. Learn how to navigate the intricacies of higher education to affect change on campus to directly benefit UI students in tangible ways. Aided in ensuring the allocation of 1.7 million student dollars equitably and financially sustainably toward student organizations and initiatives annually. The role also included advocating for medical amnesty and higher education financial allocations at the local and state levels, eventually leading to a medical amnesty bill being passed in the Iowa legislature in June of 2020 after five years of UI student advocacy. Summers of 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 Throughout four summers at Camp Ewalu, served as a counselor, a middle school program area coordinator, and the high school Leadership Training program coordinator. Each year, served as a faith-led role model in an intentional Christian community while teaching and empowering fellow staff members and campers to pursue growth in personal journeys of faith. Working as a middle school program coordinator required formulating weekly schedules, facilitating intentional learning activities, and coordinating the successful execution of programs. The Leadership Training Coordinator position fostered an environment for vulnerability and growth to teach high school counselors-in-training about facilitating Bible studies, interacting with campers of various development stages, and living out a life aligned with religious values. Guided students in developing their leadership skills and becoming aware of individual strengths. The opportunity to mentor young people was a life-changing one in which passions and skills for identifying potential and empowering others to become better versions of themselves through goal-setting, intentional action, and reflection were realized.
