The project was created in a course that I took previously, where we were given the task of researching and determining whether or not printing and printing behavior was greatly effecting the Campus' carbon footprint. Therefore, the class did extensive research into all aspects of printing with the broad topics including: paper, ink/toner, waste disposal, printer manufacturing, transportation costs and resources, and many other topics. The class also had to conduct a small inventory of printing devices found in each department and figure out if smaller desktop printers had a greater or smaller effect than larger multi-functional devices. What was determined was that printing had a larger impact on CU's carbon footprint than what was previously expected. My collegues and I suggested to CU's administration that in order to reduce the impacts that printing had on the campus it would be optimal to begin a Sustainable Printing campaign that targeted smaller desktop printers as they were less environmentally efficent. Therefore, I was chosen to continue on the project by creating an educational campaign where I went to as many departments as possible to talk with the faculty and staff and train them how to use their printers more efficently. I was a six-month temporary employee, and during my time I went to over twenty departments and talked with over seventy-five faculty and staff members. Show less
