Evaluating the role, value and lessons learned of the exempted fishing permits issued through NOAA, in partnership with the Nature Conservancy. The EFP program allows for empirical testing of alternative regulations and gear types to improve fishery sustainability. Additionally, the program directly involves fishers and other partners in the experimentation process and leverages private-sector contributions toward fisheries science and management, which increases the potential for long-term conservation outcomes. Logistics Coordinator
-
Mar 2016 - Oct 2019
As a sea-going marine ecologist, she was involved in all aspects of the 100 Island Challenge Project, including field expedition execution, data analysis, and reporting. Lindsay worked with the project coordinator to plan and lead numerous data collection field trips, many being over a month in length (up to 80 scientific dives in one trip). Each deployment would require months of prep work and expertise in diving and boating safety, day-to-day logistics, collaborator coordination, data collection (fish, benthic, oceanographic), and data management. She also developed training materials and led training workshops all over the world to share our technology with partners (Hawaii, Okinawa, French Polynesia, to name a few). When Lindsay was not in the field, she compiled all expedition reports to date, performed data analyses, and maintained the project website to help facilitate correspondence and data sharing with our island partners and the general public. Lindsay was also very involved in student mentorship and has directly supervised many students at various levels (MAS, MS, and BS). Having interest in science communication and outreach, Lindsay led the collaboration with the Birch Aquarium to highlight the goals, scientific methods, and coral reef imagery collected through the 100 Island Challenge. As a part of this collaboration, she worked with aquarium staff (aquarists, exhibits, and education) to design a dive show in the Research in Action exhibit in the Hall of Fishes. Show less
