Linda Kite is working collaboratively with government agencies and community based organizations to ensure that primary prevention takes place in the highest risk communities in Los Angles. She has worked on lead poisoning prevention in Los Angeles, California, at the state and at the national level since 1992. As a community organizer she brought forth the largest Proposition 65 settlement against a private landlord, which resulted in $14 million in repairs for Low-Income Tenants in East L.A. She is a nationally recognized bilingual trainer and has trained over 300 community leaders, organizers, and health promoters to conduct Participatory Action Research using housing based hazard inspections and health surveys for the Community Environmental Health Resource Center program. The data obtained from this research has served to create policy change as well as housing & health improvements at local levels and for the families involved. Ms. Kite worked with multiple jurisdictions in L.A. and several community based organizations to Pilot a Primary Lead Poisoning prevention strategy that resulted in reaching over 12,000 families and over $5 Billion of private investment in housing repairs in the city of L.A. for the 2 year duration of the pilot. Linda received her undergraduate degree in Business Administration / International Marketing, and her MBA from Cal State University of L.A. She then received a Masters in International Relations form the University of New Mexico. She was trained as an Environmental Justice Organizer by the Center for Third World Organizing and has successfully completed the training and certification in State of California as a Project Monitor for Lead Abatement (2001) and a Lead Paint Inspector / Risk Assessor (2005). In March 2005 she was appointed to the CDC’s Advisory Committee for Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention, serving under the Secretary of Health and Human Services, and reappointed in March 2006 to serve until May of 2010.
