Well folks, I did it! I have made the transfer to Johnson Youth Center Sept. 20,2016 to finish off my career , because they closed the detention center in Ketchikan, I decided to continue to work with at risk youth and transferred to Juneau to complete my career. May 2, 2018 my last day of work for DJJ. I am sad and happy at the same time. I totally fell in love with Juneau. It is so beautiful here, it takes my breathe away! I will totally miss everyone I worked with and met being here at JYC. But, my home is in Ketchikan and we will board the Alaska State Ferry the Malispina on May 3rd to make our final journey to Ketchikan, back to my home.

Working with at risk youth is a very rewarding job.Living in my home town, working with youth is something I am good at. For a very long time I wanted to get a huge house at least 6 bedrooms so that I could be a Therapeutic Foster Parent I would do this in a heart beat! If I have helped one child then I am so ever humbled. I also am a Advocate for FASD for those of you who do not know what this is, Fetal Alcohol Spectram Disorder. I am both a parent and work with and advocate for FASD. It is a passion of mine. Trying to keep the message going, too women, youth who are preganant, to NOT DRINK ALCOHOL while caring that wonderful human being, whether the women wants to keep the child or give it up for adoption, which I commend your courage. Keeping your fetus healthy, will give you much pride in doing so. Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder is an umbrella of disorders the child can have while growning up. If the child did not have FASD, chances are your child will not have ADHD, ADD, Bi-Polar,many other disorders could be named. With the State Budget Cuts, due to oil prices going way down. I was able to go to the FASD Forum in Juneau this year and go to the Capitol, talk with Senators & Repersentives, lobbying for their help to keep the funding for FASD in the Budget. My other passion should I ever get the chance, would be to work in the Drug & Alcohol Field for our youth. It is much needed. However, I haven't had the chance to leave my job to go get the training in Anchorage or Fairbanks to become a Drug & Alcohol Counselor for our youth. Our youth need the help in understanding what we need to survive to adulthood.
