After a successful and enjoyable career in the UK, I moved to Doha to embark upon a new adventure to play a key role in establishing a World Class, internationally regarded women’s and children’s hospital. My role was extremely enjoyable and varied and some highlights include: • Led a multi-disciplinary team across a broad spectrum of challenges taking the hospital from Greenfield site to world renowned leader in healthcare. • Overall clinical lead for implementing the appropriate electronic systems including Cerner and a wide range of other integrated solutions. • Responsible for the development and successful implementation of new nationally innovative healthcare delivery systems including virtual appointments, drive through services, telephone triage and medication prescription renewal services. • Managed safety incident reporting: including reviewing and closing investigations; performing root cause analysis when appropriate, & a senior member of Incident Command through 3 major incidents • Globally sourced and on boarded more than 100 qualified nurses from multiple continents, whilst designing appropriate staffing structures, including staff development, engagement and planning. Delighted to represent the largest Cancer Centre in Europe for nearly two decades, including growing from a part time nurse to being responsible for the development and management of world class paediatric and adult endocrine units with circa 25 staff. Key moments of interest include: • Managed the endocrine day unit including oversight of patient’s pathway from booking to treatment; • Managed staff: recruitment, training, study leave, sick leave, absence and disciplinary management. • Directed a large team involved in designing, planning, organizing and moving the endocrine department to a new unit; served as Lead Clinical Nurse Specialist with direct responsibility for contributing to the design the new facility. • Member of numerous Pharmaceutical Advisory Boards and committees with broad roles and responsibilities including acting as chair, presenter, developing agendas etc. • Member of the British Endocrine Society Nurse Committee for 3 years, which involved setting up nurse education sessions at the British Endocrine Society Conferences; created links with the American Endocrine Society and developed the network with nurses specialized in endocrinology and related consultants throughout the UK.
