COOL TO BE ME was established in 2009. It is a home-grown, South African company that develops, publishes and assists in the implementation of Social Emotional Learning (SEL) programmes for children aged 6-13. Our material offers valuable content for the current Life Skills subject taught in schools and is a useful and sought-after resource for organisations and individuals (including psychologists and social workers) working with children and parents.SEL refers to a child’s interpersonal (social) development with others while the emotional aspect relates to the child’s intrapersonal development of self. The purpose of SEL is to equip children with the skills needed to manage the complexities, demands and pressures of everyday life where the outcome is increased emotional resilience, resourcefulness and self-esteem and the ability to live meaningfully and successfully.COOL TO BE ME is currently implemented in approximately 40 schools around the country, from the most under-privileged to the most privileged. We measure our success on the fact that 95% of our business is repeat business and our client base grows year on year. We also receive a lot of positive feedback from children, teachers and parents. There is a significant amount of international research that gives SEL its credibility and transformationalreputation. CTBM is currently the only South African company researching the impact of SEL in the South African context.
