I handle a case load of non-claims cases including regulatory cases, disciplinaries, complaints and inquests. These cases span the Irish, Northern Irish and Scottish jurisdictions.I am 'Knowledge Advocate' for my Department, which has invovled creating and implementing a case management system; I am IT representative for the Edinburgh office; I have arranged CPD on topics outwith the usual training, for example on reading medical records; I have run training sessions on niche areas, for example medical record disclosure in Ireland. I was delighted to sit alongside the Healthcare Team in Liverpool as part of the formal week-long vacation scheme. I thoroughly enjoyed conducting legal research for a number of NHS clients, drafting NHS policies and reviewing medical records for an interesting inquest. I also was given the opportunity to observe an Associate provide training on the Mental Capacity Act for the NHS Knowsley. I had the pleasure of joining Shoosmith's Corporate Team for this week. In addition to drafting various documents (including board minutes and voluntary notices of registrable status), I enjoyed this terrific insight into working in a transactional area of law. This was an invaluable experience and great opportunity to find out more about Shoosmiths. I had the pleasure of joining Shoosmith's Corporate Team for this week. Working both in the CPS’s offices and attending hearings, I was responsible for producing bundles to exacting standard and using both manual and electronic filing systems. I was tasked with conducting legal research, and gained proficiency in navigating legal databases. I enjoyed rising to the challenges this high pressure environment presented, learning to expect the unexpected. Here, I engaged with a range of activities, including drafting legal documents, administration and sitting in on meetings. Taking notes in meetings, where negotiations were expertly navigated, taught me valuable communication skills, which I now apply. I also enjoyed working within a team of solicitors, who found that they could rely on me to be dependable and execute tasks exactly.
