Emergency Room position in the ICU as a teammate assist during the COVID-19 pandemic. Overcame unit and skill barriers as this was the first ICU employment experience. The value of working as a team was evident during this time, as we were in need of one another with the high patient acuity, and the low amount of resources. Duties included: Medication Administration, patient education, ventilator management, Arterial line management, management of parenteral feedings, EKG monitoring, and team proneing.

During this time I was a travel nurse at Kaiser South Sacramento, a Level II trauma center. This was to be an 8-week assignment that was extended for another 8 weeks. This facility was well managed and a lot of knowledge was gained here. The population here was very diverse in ethnicity as well as acuity. Cardiac arrests, Cerebral Vascular accidents, Bowel obstructions, exacerbations of chronic conditions like COPD, CKD, and liver disease. The behavioral health unit was typically always at capacity as well. I was responsible for the management of care for all of these conditions and more.

The program also offered GED classes, and vouchers to take the test at no cost to them. My role focused on outreach in the community: creating power-points to take to the high schools to motivate students to consider post-secondary education and get them involved in our program, emailing and calling students that were interested in the program, and participating in planning events for the organization.
